چکیده

An evolvable analogue electronic artificial cochlea has become a practical proposition with the recent development of dynamically configurable and reconfigurable Field Programmable Analogue Arrays (FPAA). The authors describe a proof-of-concept system based on the Anadigm® FPAA that implements a four-channel evolvable cochlea on one device. A genetic algorithm (GA) can be used to arrive at an optimal set of filter parameters in a given environment. In this way, the system is able to adapt the filter bank for different acoustic environments. The system proposed learns to adapt to the acoustic environment and tunes itself to the wearers needs in that environment. The authors are also investigating how the system could be further refined to evolve the configuration of the cochlea through the primary configuration of the FPAA. This might include, for example, varying the number of channels, comparing multi-channel to single channel, pulse (spiking) versus analogue signal waveform or by using more powerful evolutionary algorithms than the GA used such as the harmony search algorithm.

Hardware Evolution of Analog Speed Controllers for a DC Motor

Evolvable hardware provides the capability to evolve analog circuits to produce amplifier and filter functions. Conventional analog controller designs employ these same functions. Analog controllers for the control of the shaft speed of a DC motor are evolved on an evolvable hardware plaform utilizing a Field Programmable Transistor Array (FPTA). The performance of these evolved controllers is ...

Evolutionary analog circuit design on a programmable analog multiplexer array

This work discusses an Evolvable Hardware (EHW) platform for the synthesis of analog electronic circuits. The EHW analog platform, named PAMA (Programmable Analog Multiplexer Array), is a reconfigurable platform that consists of integrated circuits whose internal connections can be programmed by Evolutionary Computation techniques, such as Genetic Algorithms, to synthesize circuits. The PAMA is...

Implementation of Specific Equalising Filters using Field Programmable Analogue Arrays (FPAA)

Abstract – Following a short description of Field Programmable Analogue Arrays (FPAA), the implementation of specific equalising filters, using FPAA, will be presented. Special focus will be laid on the design and implementation of equalising filters for digital to analogue conversion, but the design program can solve a by far wider range of filter implementation problems. Included in the paper...

Fault-tolerant evolvable hardware using field-programmable transistor arrays

The paper presents an evolutionary approach to the design of fault-tolerant VLSI (very large scale integrated) circuits using EHW (evolvable hardware). The EHW research area comprises a set of applications where GA (genetic algorithm) are used for the automatic synthesis and adaptation of electronic circuits. EHW is particularly suitable for applications requiring changes in task requirements a...
